Yippee!! We got the keys to our new house today ~ won’t have our household goods until next Wednesday ~ but we’re glad to have the house. Our hold-baggage will be delivered tomorrow with the usual assortment of pots, pans, dishes, towels, a card table and some chairs. Unfortunately, no beds but we’re working on it.
We move in tomorrow and the internet, cable and phone won’t be hooked up until Monday and, we’ve yet to get a cell phone, so I’ll be unplugged for a while. At least, we won’t be reading by candlelight. I’ll probably troll around the neighborhood to see if I can pick up someone’s Wi-Fi. Actually, that’s a little too creepy ~ maybe I’ll just find a nice, cozy internet cafe to hang out in.
Funny thing about the cell phone is I was seriously considering NOT getting one. Someone at FM’s work was putting together a new roster and asked for his cell number to which he replied “Don’t have one and probably won’t get one because they are expensive and we have to sign a two year lease.” No doubt that drew an incredulous look. The next day, the roster was sent out with the note “I’ll be taking ‘FM’ to AER (Army Emergency Relief) so he can take out a loan for a cell phone.” Cheeky, eh? In the end, I decided I’ll get one for emergencies in case I get stuck in a snow drift or something. Hope I don’t become so self-important with it that I end up like half the people around here who have it GLUED to their ears at all times ~ drives me a little crazy when I see that ~ really! who the heck can talk that long on a phone (unless you’re 15 or so!)?
God bless you for being so patient with your move. I forgot what a pain it is to have your whole house packed up. Cell phone are so nice for emergencies, but such a pain for the everyday. My job could be a 24/7 job if I let it. My boss gave me the best advice ever. Turn off your cell phone when you are done for the day. We have emergency on-call pager. It is hard enough to take those calls every 3 weeks. I swore I would not let the kids get cell. K got one. She pays for herself. It is nice to be able to check up on her too. She is so busy with the soccer team and her friends.
FG I love the color of your new room. Congradulations on the school testing.

I’m happy you are finally in your new home.
My cell phone contract expired in April and I had such a great felling of freedom.
To me it was a burden. Where is it? Is it charged? Oh man, I forgot to bring it.
T got me a Verizon phone but he is the only one who has the number.
I found that’s the best way to keep the phone for emergency purposes only.

So you got your keys a day early?! That is great, I know how anxious you must be to get unpacked and settled. I know we were, three months later, and we are still unpacking! I am guilty when it comes to cell phones, can’t leave the house without it, especially with kids~for emergencies. We have Verizon and they seem to have the best coverage so we could stay ‘plugged in’ wherever we traveled. Ask about the government discount.

I got the pay-as-you-go . . . don’t really use it but wanted it for emergencies. I already had the phone so think it was a $30 connection fee and then 15 cents a minute . . .

Welcome Home Finally,
SD started Kintergarten this week. Not a big transition since she was in “school” already during the day. She loves it and she comes home and mimics her teacher with a mock classroom in the her bedroom. So I stand outside her door like a stalker listening – to get all the days scoop. Pretty Funny Stuff. Oh, I sleep with my BlackBery under my pillow…I am am addict, and I even have 2 wireless headsets for when one dies on me mid day! Back to the Salt Mine…MD

I went three years in Germany without a cell while it seemed like everyone else was paying big bucks for pay-as-you-go cards. When we arrived back stateside, I was very resistant, so I can understand. We have a family plan now and it is expensive. The taxes are insane and then it’s annoying when I get dropped calls and bad reception. If it’s worth anything, JD Power and Consumer Reports say that Verizon is the best and most reliable provider.

FG is SO ready to start school ~ we registered her yesterday and everyone at the school was so welcoming. Should be a fun year for her. I hope she makes some good friends ~ she misses all her buddies in Guam and Germany.
Yeah, I bet you’re pretty tied to your cell phone for business, aren’t you?!

So happy to hear that you have your keys and will be settled into your new home! When does school start for FG? Our kids are starting to get a little restless and bored – which is a good thing. By Sept 4 I think it wont be to hard to get them out of bed and off to school!
I am with you on the cell phone thing – I wish to be unplugged! 🙂
