I love Scotland ~ from Edinburgh to Inverness and all the way to the North Coast. The countryside, the people, the can’t quite put in to words feeling I get when I’m there.
On our 2013 drive through Scotland, my well-traveled (dare I say slightly jaded) 15-year-old said “Inverness speaks to my soul.” I have no doubt she will return to Scotland again and again.
We’ve been watching the debates, keeping an eye on the polls and now the day has come for Scotland to decide its future. Looks to be a nail-biter. My American heart is rooting for their independence but my economy-thinking brain can’t help but see the financial struggles looming for both Scotland and England. And even in Independence, there is an interdependence with other countries for security, finances, etc that can’t be ignored.
Such an important day in history and I wish only the best for Scotland and the wonderful Scottish people!
So … a day later and the results are known.
What do you think?

Didn’t realize I was holding my breath on this vote but when I heard the news, my first feeling was RELIEF!
I already think of Scotland as a separate country/culture so I feel they’ve got the best of both worlds as part of the UK. Especially economically and with regards to national security. Let’s hope a reconciliation can be worked out between the Yes and the No so they won’t have to go through this again anytime soon.

Personally, I hope Scots will use their brains and choose to remain in the Union. Secession doesn’t make any sense economically speaking (at least for Scots) and all the other reasons, however sentimental, don’t quite stand on their own two feet.
It’s pitiful that a country which built the greatest empire on Earth, was so important in so many aspects of human development and, incidentally, won two World Wars agains totalitarianism is on the verge of splitting up only because Alex Salmond’s little power trip.
And I say that as a non-UK national living in the country and as a lover of Scotland (not by mistake I wrote down a post on why people should visit Scotland ahead than everything else in the country).

If they win independance I hope they will be accepted in the EU otherwise it’s going to be painful to go there…

Agree! And it’ll be painful if the No vote wins by a close margin ~ no doubt the Yes side will want another election in the near future leading to a limbo state.

I can bet on France and especially Spain veto-ing them. Plus Osborne has made it quite clear that Scotland won’t use the pound, however stupid that idea would be. So they’ve left with a country isolated politically and economically… Sounds like a plan!

And Belgium, because the Flemish part would also like independence. I’ve heard that Spain already organised a referendum… We’ll see tomorrow morning ! It seems a bit unrealistic, for the reason you’ve mentioned 😉
