Thanks for stopping by Displaced Beachbums. I’m an island girl at heart who’s addicted to travel. When I’m out exploring, I’m either writing about the last trip or planning the next one. Luckily I have a husband and daughter who share my wandering spirit.
I was born in Hawaii but we moved away when I turned 11 years old and have been moving every 2 to 4 years ever since. I love an adventure whether it be close to home or far away. This blog was originally started as a way to keep family and friends updated on our life on Guam and when we moved to upstate New York, I became a Displaced Beachbums.

Thank you for following my blog. I know how many interesting blogs are out there and feel honored that you picked mine to follow. I hope my stories entertain and inform and my photos bring you joy and wonderment.
I travel mostly local but try to always find interesting places. I have lived in several different places and dig through my archives of photos to bring glimpses into places I have been. Sometimes I post a recipe because food tells a lot about culture.
I am not a professional photographer, so my photos are sometimes a little fuzzy and there are telephone poles and wires and other things along with what I was photographing. The older photos are 35mm, the newer are point and shoot digital and a few are Samsung Smartphone.
I am new to blogging so if you have any advice or critique please drop me a comment.

Thanks ~ you made my day with your comment! I’m interested in your progress with Spanish Immersion. I used to speak Spanish but didn’t have a chance to use it until recently when we visited Spain last year and then I realized I wanted to become fluent again or at least become more comfortable when conversing. I’ve been searching the internet for Spanish Immersion for adults in Spain. My daughter attended a program last year for teens but she’d prefer if I were in another city doing my immersion (just joking ~ I think). 😉 I look forward to reading more about your adventures and love that you are exposing your children to languages and travel at such young ages! Hi!
I ran across your Blog while Googling SolRx!
I am contemplating becoming a Sales rep or possibly a distributor and was looking for anything I could find online that referenced either (and found your post).
Are you still distributing the product? What information can you share with me? I’m not a salesperson, just looking to do this on the side. Was wondering how difficult/easy it is.
If possible, maybe you can email me directly?
Would love to get insight into the business – pros and cons!

OK you 2 – I do read this blog you know. Next time FM and FG and I are going on our own adventure & you 2 can stay home :)! For those reading this that don’t know – I’m a bear hugger – Patti’s a bit more reserved. Told Patti if she saw our friend Sandie again before she left to give her a hug for me – a Stacy hug, not a Patti pat. Told Alan I was afraid I’d offended her, but in Patti’s usual good humor – (& knowing me VERY well) she caught the amusement. And by the way my stories might be enhanced, but are ALL true 🙂 Thrilled you guys have had such a delightful trip – enjoyed tagging along – and still more than a bit jealous! Only visited St. Thomas and knew then and now even more – doesn’t nearly do the VI justice. Leave it to you guys to not be content with sitting on a beautiful beach, but to take in everything possible in a relatively short visit & using up the pumpkin car. Love the news about FG’s new blog – gonna tell a couple of neighbor’s kids about it in hopes they’ll visit her site! Talk soon – xo to FM & FG & hi out there, Heidi!

Stacy told me all about the difference between the ‘pat on the back’ and the ‘Stacy hug’. It’ll probably just be the ‘pat’ that she’ll get from me.

Hi Patti!
You have probably already covered this somewhere, but I couldn’t find a “search” box, so I’m just going to ask! Do you watch “Army Wives,” and is it realistic in any way?
I know it’s a soap opera, so I take it with a HUGE grain of salt, and I only just started watching, so I missed all of last season, but it makes me think of you (especially since Kim Delaney reminds me of you!), and I thought I’d ask.

Tabbi: I’m not completely familiar with the Navy but, if it’s like the Army, then once you’re married, the Navy will pay for your relocation to the new duty station so long as it is an “accompanied” tour and you’re on the Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders. Let me know if you make it to Guam ~ we miss it a lot!

The comment above is mine! I didn’t mean for it to be anonymous, so I thought I’d add this comment. Usually I’m good at following directions, but I’m apparently terrible at first impressions.
I do have a question for you when you have a free moment. I noticed in your Guam entries that you had dogs but no fence. We were told by another pilot in my husband’s squadron, who just moved back to the states from Anderson AFB that you could have a fence as long as you put it up yourself and removed it before you left. That’s how it’s been at other bases we’ve lived on. So I’m confused… either we got bad info or your family opted not to do the fence. With the typhoons, I could see how fences wouldn’t be allowed, but I’m REALLY hoping they are. Any insight? For clarification, we are moving to Anderson AFB.

Louise: Will you be moving to “Big Navy” or will your husband be part of the Navy unit here on Andersen? Of course, there’s good and bad to every place but where ever I go, I concentrate on the good things a place has to offer. If you like the outdoors and the island lifestyle (laid back), you’ll probably have a great time here. I understand though how hard it would be to leave San Diego ~ that’s a pretty nice town to be in.

Hey Patti, we so miss the both of you. I was on the blog tonight and saw that you had left a comment. We were so sad to hear about Bennett. I commented on the blog. Ryan saw it and was also saddened. Bennett was the type of dog we all wish for. We have yet to get a dog, I really understand the commitment and we haven’t yet felt comfortable with so many other things going on but it is a desire. I will gladly talk to you though as I respect your opinion even if I know you won’t say what I want to hear:) I felt so bad for missing your call and I know I need to talk to you. You always have such practical advise. Our neighbors husband returned but we never see them, it was over a week before I got to say “Welcome Back!” Nothing like having you and your family as neighbors.
Anyhow, gotta go as we have dance class tonight. I may have to change sites to the one you and Kathy use. The one I am using is such a pain I haven’t been keeping up.
