Valentine Fortune Cookie a la Martha Stewart
I read about these Martha Stewart Valentine Fortune “cookies” about a month ago, got all the supplies and then left everything in the bag until last night. About 7:00 pm, FG and I got everything out and got to work making them for her St. Valentine’s Day class party.
The fortune cookies are made of felt, lined in the middle with floral wire, stuffed with a couple of kisses and a “fortune” which reads “You will have a sweet year.” In case you want to try them next year or for St. Patrick’s Day (change everything to green), go here for details: Valentine Fortune Cookies
Unfortunately, I’m passing my procrastinating ways on to FG. I work best under pressure but I’m trying to do things ahead so I can teach her that projects turn out better when you plan and execute ahead of the due date.
The cookies turned out OK though so I don’t think this was a good learning experience. Maybe next time…
Thanks, Patti. I just checked out the magazine on her website and the price seems reasonable. It’s MUCH better than buying from the newsstand which I seem to have a bad habit of doing. So many swore her (Martha) off after her little fiasco (ha!) with the feds, but I just can’t help but love her stuff….what to do?? 😉

Hi Nicole
First off, Heidi is in a whole other league than I when it comes to creative crafts and especially her quilts which I personally can only dream of doing.
As far as Martha, I seem to have a love/hate relationship with her. My mom got me a subscription for Christmas and I really like it. I’ve gotten several recipes, craft ideas and organization tips. They definitely pack a lot into every issue.

One more question–do you and Heidi subscribe to Martha Stewart’s magazine? I’ve thought about it but wasn’t sure about the cost or if it would be worth it.

Wow! I’m so impressed, Patti! I shudder to think how these would turn out if I attempted them…I love the “idea” of crafts but my results aren’t always so great. 🙂 Very impressive!

We used fabric glue instead of the hot glue only because I couldn’t find the hot glue gun ~ of course, FG found it RIGHT after we finished the last cookie. The fabric glue worked fine but we had to let it dry overnight and finished them up before she got on the bus today. Like I wrote, so LAST minute 😦
Our cookies didn’t look exactly like Martha’s and I misread the size. It should have been 4.5 inches wide and ours were a little over 4 inches. The extra size would have made them nicer but FG was thrilled with them and I was OK with them.

I gave up on those things. Mine looked nothing like the ones in the book . . . I guess if you have extra hands like Martha everything turns out perfect. Then I found out I had to make 28 so no way . . . they would look cute just sitting in a bowl though. Did you ever get the glue to work? The hot glue worked good for me and it was one step of wire and ribbon but time just wasn’t being my friend.
