Mount Vernon Estates is offering free admission to the estate today, Presidents Day 2014 and to celebrate George Washington’s 282nd birthday. It’ll be an all-day birthday salute with the gates opening at 8 am. No doubt the grounds will look especially beautiful with the recent blanketing of snow. My past visits have been when the weather was a little warmer…

I rode through briefly on my bike trip last summer, my first time there since elementary school. Your photos made me want to get back and spend more time exploring!

Let me know when you visit again ~ would be fun to meet you in person! Mount Vernon always seems to have something going on ~ last time I was there they were re-enforcing the foundation around the kitchen building and they had University of Maryland archaeology students “digging” http://www.georgewashingtonwired.org/2013/06/20/dirt-on-the-dig-archaeologists-begin-excavations-near-the-kitchen/

I would love to meet!! I’ll let you know next time I’m in the area. I’ll be in Reston in 2 weeks for an NP Conference, but those are so jam packed I never really get a chance to escape. If you’ll be near Reston sometime between March 5th and 8th, let me know!
