Most people who know us won’t be surprised we’ve added a new puppy to our family ~ Maya. She’s been adopted from the local animal shelter (G.A.I.N) and is sweet as can be. We brought her home on Saturday for what FG calls a “sleepover” so we could make sure Sport liked her. They certainly look good together since Maya is the color of Sport’s spots. She’s a matching accessory 😉
Since Sport is 11 years old, I didn’t want him to feel jealous and thankfully, he seems to like her a lot. He’s been very lonely since Bennett died.
Sport actually started running around and playing like a young pup himself. That sealed the deal for Maya ~ she now has a new family and is officially off death row.
This is FG’s first experience with a puppy and she’s having to get use to Maya being underfoot ALL THE TIME. Needless to say, I am going through the ordeal of the puppy training ~ I’ll be really happy when she’s housebroken and doesn’t refuse to move everytime I put the leash on her. She’s quite the charmer though so she makes us smile a lot.
Stephanie: the hamster really never had a chance. With Sport’s hound dog nose, it would have driven him crazy. FG does have a hamster book (in German) that she got from Nadja.
Maya is doing great but she has a long way to go to fill Bennett’s paws. I’ve promised FM that he can get another lab when we get back to the states.

Does this put the hamster on hold? When searching for Christmas gifts for FG we thought about a book about hamsters but maybe that will be delayed with the excitment of your new family member! She does appear adorable and sounds as if she is carrying on Bennet’s legacy. Keep in touch, we miss you more this time of year!

Sir Bentley:
Maya has taken up where Bentley finished ~ chewing on the dining room (wooden) chairs. Not that I really care since those dining room chairs are 15 years old. Can it really be FIFTEEN!!???
Thanks for the reminder about racketballs ~ it’s been so long since I’ve had a puppy around that I completely forgot about that.

Congrats on your new addition! Maya says “Thank you!”…she couldn’t have been given a better home. :o)
Tip: hide the remotes, shoes, mail, wooden furniture, etc… Remember…racketballs make great entertainment and teething toys…and they’re cheap and easy to clean too!!

Hi Patty!
It was good to hear from you! We stayed at Camp Zama in Japan. It was about a 40 min train ride from Tokyo on the southwestern end of the island. If you have any more questions, drop me an email! Give my best to your family!
