Books on the Brain tagged me for the following meme:
Whatcha Reading? I’d like to know 5 things:
1) Whatcha reading?
2) How much have you read so far?
3) What’s it about? (in a sentence or two)
4) What does the title refer to?
5) Would you recommend it?
I’m going to do two memes because I just finished reading a great book that I want to include, it is:
1) The Last Days of Summer by Steve Kluger
2) Just finished it.
3) It’s a clever and creative read about all things wonderful concerning people: friendship, trust, loyalty, bravery, heros, decency, honor and love of country.
4) In my opinion, one of the characters is a baseball player and Days of Summer makes me think of baseball and, since the story takes place during WWII, it’s the last days of an era. America and the world changed so much after the war as did the characters lives.
5) I would HIGHLY recommend the book. I originally heard about it from Life on the Run about a year ago and I’m glad I finally read it.
Now for the book I just started reading:
1) Strong Currents ~ An Anthology of Hawai’i Writers. Edited by Sally Sorenson
2) I’m only on page 19.
3) A compilation of short stories by over a dozen Hawai’i writers. The editor is a personal friend. She’s always been a fabulous writer and, for years, her Christmas letter ranked at the very top of my favorites. Now, I not only get to enjoy her books but also her writings via her blog.
4) Strong Currents refers to the reader being swept away by the many short stories. I’m looking forward to reading about Hawaii while hibernating in the snowy Northern Country of New York.
5) I’ll let you know but so far, so good.
I tag Life on the Run, Jessmob, O Chronicles and Sally. Anyone who wants to join in, please do. Leave a link to your blog or write the info in the comments. I love getting recommendations (or warnings) from friends and fellow book lovers.
I have started a new book. The recommendation came from NPR – Science Friday with Ira Flato. I am only on the first chapter – it is about Mind Mapping and how we use our brains to map not only our physical body, but how we perform activities.
Will update as I progress 🙂

So I finished the book last night – in a chair. This is one I would not recommend, as I predicted. The trouble really started when we hit May 1st and several chapters later we were in April . . . I hate it when an author doesnt know where she is and mixes up the time period! aghhhh

I have managed to tie two things together during this month . . . reading while walking on the treadmill. I am getting in 30 minutes of reading and walking at the same time! (AND every day!) I have a terrible desire to multi-task and this seems to be working great. While walking I am reading:
“The Second Time Around” Mary Higgins Clark.
I am on page 169;
Still not sure I like it.
Its a curious mystery with all kinds of twists and a creepy bad guy
I cant remember if I have read M.H.C. books before this one, but I think that I am not crazy about her character development because she tells the reader too much, not much left to my imagination and it isnt complicated, although she has thrown in twists that have made me think “huh”
I cant explain the title – I could guess, but it has not been made clear at this point.
I do not remember where this book came from – I inherit alot of books. The reason I picked it up is because it appeared to be a small commitment. I will let you know if I would recommend it after I finish it – It is rather unlikely since I am about 1/2 way through it and still wondering if I like it 🙂

I don’t know – I’ve always thought it referred to his coming of age. Like the innocence and carefree-ness of summer days, and how they wind down to the responsibility of growing up in the fall. But your way sounded good too! 🙂
As for TTW, I do love it (still), but it isn’t everyone’s favorite. I’ll be interested to see if you like it.
If you’re at all interested in memoirs, The Glass Castle was an incredibly interesting story and very well written. I would recommend it as well.

KBG: My mom is half way through “The Last Days of Summer” and loves it, too. Feel free to recommend books to me anytime ~ you’ve got great taste. My next one after “Strong Currents” is “Time Traveler’s Wife” which you recommended a while ago as well.
BTW ~ what do you think the title “The Last Days of Summer” refers to?

I’m so glad you finally read it! It is one of my all-time favorites – just laugh out loud funny. I will not pee in the reservoir. Hee, hee.
I recommend that book to everyone and I have never had anyone say they didn’t love it. It’s perfect for all ages. Thanks for passing the love of this book on!
