I feel like I closed my eyes on 23 December and when I opened them, it was 28 December. The time has flown by with so much activity.
Santa brought FG a whole lot of hamster supplies so we took the hint and bought FG a hamster. I have to admit Harriet is a cute little creature and I find myself watching her as she scurries around her cage either eating, cleaning herself or exercising on the wheel. FG has become a little possessive of Harriet and keeps reminding me the dogs will get jealous if I spend too much time with the hamster. FG’s way of saying “Back off, Mommy.”
I’ve spent a lot more time cooking and baking this year. We wanted to share some baked goods with the soldiers on duty for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I made cookies, brownies, & muffins. Of course, I had to taste each batch to make sure they were delicious.
Christmas here in the North Country has been wonderful and FG was thrilled to have Grandma Betty with us again. We spent Christmas eve at a neighbor’s home and we’re really enjoying our new-found friends.
Patti.. I do have a tip. Check the cage for any sharp edges. K’s hamster cut her paw. We aren’t sure how, exactly, but we had to take her to the vet. $105 for the visit, a shot, and medicine. All for an $8. hamster. I wrote about it here:

lisamm: Let me know if you have any helpful hints for hamster care. I know what you mean about keeping the cage door locked ~ I accidently forgot the other day but thankfully Harriet didn’t escape! The dogs would have had a field day.

Awww.. cute! My girls got hamsters for their birthdays in Nov. and Dec. Laura’s looks like FG’s.. he’s a teddy bear hamster with the same coloring. Kelly’s hamster has short hair and looks almost like a chipmunk. We got the silent wheels and they work very well.
I never thought I’d say yes to hamsters, but so far the girls have been responsible as far as cleaning the cage, keeping the food and water full, and closing the cage door (that’s a biggee to me!!!)

Heidi: There are Hamster Rescue groups but, unfortunately, the closest one I could find was in Buffalo (4 hour drive each way). A little too far for a rodent 😉
Every time I think about Colin’s birthday, it makes me want to hop on a plane and go see him. Can’t believe he’s going to be FOUR and I haven’t seen him in way too long.
Be sure to take photos of the birthday cakes ~ I’m sure they’ll be cute as can be.

My oh my did you get it from the hamster rescue group? Maybe I dreamed that but I thought you told me they had these groups. Anyway, FG looks thrilled and I must admit she is cute on her shoulder/back. And what about the dogs? By the way, GM Betty looks great in the the photos so the snow must agree with her, LOL!
Tomorrow is the boys b-day party . . . he was so excited about his tractor party/cake as he took a bath tonight . . . too bad it is a frog cake! I hope he will get over it but I will probably be making a tractor cake for his real birthday.

tljess: Harriet does live in FG’s room (for now). Harriet makes noise at night with the wheel but you can buy a silent wheel which we’re going to look for this weekend. Or else Harriet may be living in the laundry room at night 🙂 FG thinks it would be nice for L. to get a hamster, too.

I am not sure I am going to show L this post — she wants a hamster bad! Our big question is: Does the hamster live in FG’s bedroom and is he active and making noise at night??? Please let me know 🙂
