Looks like skiing is the sport of choice for both FM and FG. Yesterday, we drove the short 45 minutes to Snow Ridge Ski area in Turin, NY. The snow was great with more falling as we were there. I chose not to participate since I don’t have any of the equipment I need for the slopes ~ not even ski pants.
I think back to 20 years ago when I first learned to ski. Longer was better as far as skis go but now shorter is all the rage and so much easier to control your way down the slopes. I used the shorter skis when we went to Garmisch, Germany and it made such a huge difference in the control.
Snow Ridge offers both private and semi-private lessons which I will take full advantage of once I get all my equipment ~ it takes a lot to be outfitted for skiing. There’s the clothes, the skis, poles, goggles, face mask for bone chilling days like yesterday, and, of course, what I refer to as the torture boots. All that stuff while attempting to look good without breaking the bank. Thankfully, there are lots of ski swaps going on around town and we won’t have to shell out a fortune (I hope).
One thing I’ve never tried is night skiing ~ we’re going to attempt it sometime in the next couple of weeks. Well, that’s if I can even see. It might be a little tough with my poor night vision, glasses and goggles.
Hmm…I really need to look into lasik surgery.
What a bunch of bologna. I knew he wouldn’t fess up.

Heidi and Angie: You’re so sweet to offer your ski stuff but FM bought me a pair of ski pants so I’m on my way to being ready. And there goes my excuse for not skiing 🙂
Heidi: You need to keep all that equipment so we can meet up in Park City once Colin is big enough to ski (or more likely, snowboard like his dad). By the way, I couldn’t remember who hurt their arm snowboarding in Germany ~ was it Jon or Sean?
Alice: FM is pleading the fifth and saying he can’t remember the ski story.

I remember the first time I went skiing. I was staying with my Aunt and Uncle in Ohio. My cousin and his friend Jonathan talked me into going. I was scared, but they both promised me they would teach me how, and that I was in good hands……. I think I’ll let FM finish this story.

You can borrow my snow pants if you’d like. I certainly don’t fit them right now. Let me know and I’ll drop them by your house.
P.S. Maybe next year I can try to take lessons with you. Heidi can tell you how great I was on skis! I’m making no promises.
