It was a long day which started at 5:30 this morning but everything was worth it when the announcer yelled “First Place to ~ the Ft. Drum Mountaineers.” There was a stillness, a bit of shock, before the entire gym erupted in a huge roar. Don’t get me wrong, the girls were great and deserved first place BUT the Ft. Drum cheerleaders have not taken 1st place (nor 2nd or 3rd place) ever, so it was a shock to all to hear that Ft. Drum would advance to the state competition. The other teams were especially excited for these underdogs ~ I saw a lot of the other coaches run over to congratulate our coaches.
I have to admit, this cheerleading has taken a lot of time and effort on FG’s part and mine as well. She has to be at practice 4 nights a week for 2 hours each night. Thankfully, we have 3 other cheerleaders who live on our street so the parents carpool ~ I only have to drive once a week.
Unfortunately, FM’s parents were on a Fall Foilage bus tour and were only 40 minutes away last night but, because of a cheerleading get together, we couldn’t make it out to see them. FM is out of town so he missed his parents AND FG’s competition. Really bad timing.
Congradulations FG! It is so much fun being part of the team. T is on the high school colorgaurd squad. She loves it and has made so many friends. The discipline assosicated with managing school work and after school activities is tough to balance, sometimes. It make a stronger person. The band just went to regionals in Maryland and came in 3rd. Instead of being proud of their accomplishments they were very dissappointed. They worked so hard and usually win every year. I tried to tell T that winning isn’t everything. It is a great reward for hard work. Three more weeks to nationals in Indianapolis. Hope you did great in New York.

Great job FG! I am so happy for you! Being part of team is really cool thing – even cooler when you place first! Good luck at the State Competition – more work ahead of you – but worth every minute! =)

Well CONGRATS to FG! I am so putting off any team sports activities for the simple reason it will suck up so much of my time . . . isn’t that selfish? And people take it too seriously if you ask me . . . for 4-6 year olds. Maybe you could post a video clip of FG doing a cheer, or would she be to shy about that? It has been a long day in our casa too . . . Colin has been on the couch since 715 this morning when my parents brought him home sick . . . poor guy has been so calm so I know he is sick. He is starving but doesn’t want BRAT food and I don’t want to clean up vomit all night. I am sure he will be ready in the morning.
Hugs to FG!
