Two days BEFORE FM got his call regarding our move to NY, I got word that I was chosen for a Protocol job. Upon hearing about my new job, I went out and bought a new suit to wear on my first day. FG went with me so she could play Stacy from “What not to Wear.”
Yesterday, I returned the beautiful suit (jacket & pants), matching skirt and two shirts which I purchased for the job. Some people suggested I keep it since I’ll no doubt need it sometime in the near future, but it had too much “attached” to it and every time I wore it, I would think about yet another lost career opportunity.
Now that the suit has been returned, I can close the door on that and move on to our new adventure.
I feel your pain. With only 8 more weeks left of school, my advisor informed me of a job opportunity at the Arsenal. I didn’t even bother to interview knowing we will be gone in 90 days~it’s all about timing. Oh well, I look forward to the opportunities our new destination will have to offer. Ok Patti, how will you be otherwise occupied? Did I miss something?

T: Thanks for the compliment. When I mentioned being occupied, it was in reference to all the activities and volunteering that are Army related. There’s a joke that the Military usually gets a “two for one” deal ~ the paid Army person and the spouse who gets involved in all the unpaid community activities. I’m not complaining though because I’ve met wonderful people through these “unpaid” activities. Plus, it’s very important especially during a deployment.

Patti – Have you thought about writing for a living? How about Ghost Writing? You have a gift. This is something you can do wherever you live!
Hmmm . . . . I am wondering what you are hinting at . . . .

KGB: My sentiments exactly. I don’t mind that we’re moving to Drum since I believe there is always positives no matter where one lives BUT timing is everything. It would have been great if I could have worked that Protocol job for the next two years (which was our original timeframe) then I could have transferred at a higher GS level.
Oh, well…
I won’t be looking for a job at the next stop since I have a feeling I’m going to be otherwise occupied. 😉

That stinks. I know that you don’t mind making the sacrifice, but still, that stinks.
