UPDATE: It’s been awhile since I’ve been to Guam. Feel free to leave your top 5 Favorite restaurants in Guam in the comments!
Itzy Bitzy tagged me to “Pick 5 of your favorite places to eat in your current location.” There are so many yummy restaurants here on Guam and, unfortunately, our short year here didn’t really allow us to get to all that many but I did find some gems. Here’s my current favorites:
- Proa Restaurant in Tumon. Very delicious grilled eggplant salad and the best coconut banana fritters I’ve ever had.
- Thapanee Thai Restaurant in the Hafa adai Exchange. The BEST ever Grilled Tofu with lemongrass. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Their vegetarian spring-rolls are the best I’ve ever eaten as well.
- The Mermaid Tavern in Hagåtña. Good salads and pasta. I particularly like the varied selection of beer.
- Outback in Tumon. Can’t beat their YUMMY bread and the Chocolate Lava cake dessert. Plus, next to Hard Rock Cafe, Outback is FG’s favorite place to eat.
- Jamaican Grill in Tumon. A little spicy, a little tangy and consistently good.
To be honest, one of my favorite places to eat, is right here at home. I’ve been a lot more adventurous with my recipes and some have turned out pretty darn good 🙂
I never knew there was a Thapanee Thai restaurant in the Hafa Adai Exchange. I’ll have to check it out when I go back.

Did you ever try Meskla when you were on Guam? I love it! Also like Shirley’s a lot. Oh, and I see you’re in London now. Please go to Blue Elephant on Fulham Broadway and have some fantastic Thai food.

Berna: Thanks for leaving such a nice comment. My list of 5 favorite restaurants could easily have been 10-15 favorites. Some of my other favorites here on Guam are Curry Kabob (Indian), Truongs (Vietnamese), The Veggie restaurant near Navy Hospital, Jeff’s Pirate Cove, Jan-Z’s and the list could go on and on.
It sounds like you’re a “foodie” and I recommend the blog The Scent of Green Bananas at http://scentofgreenbananas.blogspot.com/ It’s all about the food with great photos to go along with it.

Hi Patti,
I’ve been reading your blogs for awhile now and as a Guamanian living in California, this blog definitely makes me miss home even more!!! Just thinking about the food is making me salivate! hehehe. You and your family should definitely go back to Guam and test the rest of the best restaurants on Guam!

Tammie: Thanks for the nice comments about my blog. Are you with the Air Force or Navy? There are people here who LOVE Guam and those who can’t wait to leave. We’re definitely in the LOVE it camp. Sure, there are lots of things which could improve Guam but there is also so much here which makes it an island paradise. Another blog which gives a lot of insight on Guam is Latitude 13 ~ it’s listed in my “blogs I visit” column.
Good luck with the move and if you have any questions about life in Guam, I’ll be happy to attempt to answer them.
