I took my first ever yoga class today. My friend, Yukari, has been asking me to go with her since I met her last May and I finally ran out of excuses today. I almost cancelled AGAIN about an hour before the class but since I couldn’t reach Yukari by phone, I felt compelled to attend.
I don’t know if it was a good idea going with someone who is really flexible and so good at yoga that she could teach the class. At least, I could look over and see how it’s really suppose to be done rather than what I was doing. My attempts at the poses were no where near what they should have been.
It’ll take several more classes before I figure out all the pose names like Downward Facing Dog, Warrior II, Boat, The Bridge, etc. I do know I can’t even try the Crocodile or the Shoulderstand right now ~ or if I will ever want to do them.
As uncomfortable as I felt in class and as silly as I looked, I felt great the whole rest of the afternoon. If I don’t wake up in severe pain tomorrow from all the stretching, I just might add yoga to my exercise routine.
I should try some of the easy poses since I have so many books. I’m kind of afraid I might hurt myself. FG was always trying to get me to do yoga, remember.

V: Yeah, enough time is always the problem. I’m hoping to go to the class for a few weeks and learn the poses so I can do them on my own when I get up in the morning or after lunch. I had so much energy after the class ~ I was really surprised.
The yoga teacher is a spouse of a Lt.Col. and a runner as well. She always comes in at least in the top three. Sound like anyone we know?!
Beth: I’m going to look up “wind relieving” ~ I’m all about easy!

I love yoga! And don’t worry, you’ll make progress quickly. I didn’t bother learning the names, since they can be called different ones, depending on what teacher. I know Downward Facing Dog, Warrior, The Bridge, but I haven’t heard of the others. Try “Wind-Relieving Pose”–it’s super easy! 🙂

Good for you! I have always wanted to be more flexible. Instead, I am always trying to juggle the week just to get in my miles. I really should make more of an effort since my muscles are so rigid and I know it would help with my running. Too bad, there is only so much time in the week.
